Papa

What a life he lived!
A life that was beyond
what anyone would have expected
from an old man.
An old man that was helpful,
true to his word,
compassionate,
loved his family,
worked hard and diligently,
and gave with all his heart.
He left us while working
on a family friend's car.
He was always working on cars
or watching television.
He gave amazing hugs
that would intoxicate
your every being.
His hugs made the world
seem much brighter
and worthwhile.
Denim jeans covered in
grease
oil
dirt
and who knows
what else.
Plaid button up
long-sleeved shirts
that were also
covered in filth.
His hands were hard,
and leather-like
but soft to the touch.

Papa left us four years ago
to lie in peace.
Although he is some
eight feet down in the ground,
he is still ever present
in my life.
He is watching over me.
He watched me graduate
from THS.
He watched me the past year
make the mistakes
and adventurous decisions
I had made.
He is still very present
in my life every
single
day.

Papa may you rest in peace.
You are gone, but not forgotten.
You are missed, but you are here.
